Dalton Kincaid enters 2026 with high expectations and a chance to become a key piece of the Bills' offense.
The Buffalo Bills know what they're getting from Josh Allen. They know DJ Moore will be a major part of the offense. They know James Cook is one of the NFL's most productive running backs. And after another strong season, Khalil Shakir has established himself as one of Allen's most trusted targets.
Dalton Kincaid is different.
Not because the Bills don't believe in him. In fact, their actions suggest the opposite. Buffalo exercised Kincaid's fifth-year option this offseason, ensuring he'll remain with the team through at least the 2027 season.
The question isn't whether the Bills believe in Kincaid.
It's whether he's ready to become the player they envisioned when they selected him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
That's why I think Kincaid enters the 2026 season as Buffalo's biggest offensive X-factor.
When Kincaid arrived in Buffalo, the expectation was that he would eventually develop into one of the focal points of the offense. His rookie season offered plenty of reasons for optimism. He finished with 73 receptions for 673 yards and quickly became a reliable option for Allen, particularly when injuries hit the receiving corps.
It looked like the beginning of something bigger. Instead, last season became a frustrating one.
Kincaid appeared in just 12 games and finished with 39 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns. While those numbers aren't disastrous, they're not what many expected from a player entering his third season after showing so much promise.
Of course, injuries did play a major role. Kincaid dealt with multiple ailments throughout the season and never seemed fully comfortable. As a result, the breakout campaign many expected never arrived.
Now comes a pivotal fourth season.
The Bills aren't looking for Kincaid to become Travis Kelce overnight. They don't need him to lead the NFL in receptions or challenge franchise records. But moving towards that wouldn't hurt.
If Kincaid can stay healthy and become the reliable middle-of-the-field target Buffalo envisioned, the offense becomes significantly more difficult to defend.
Think about the weapons surrounding him.
Defenses are going to have to account for Moore on the outside; Shakir continues to be one of Allen's favorite targets; Cook remains a threat both as a runner and receiver; and there's hope for players like Keon Coleman and rookie Skyler Bell.
That should create opportunities for Kincaid.
Linebackers and safeties will be forced into difficult matchups, and defenses won't be able to focus all of their attention on one player. And that's what makes Kincaid so important
The Bills already know they have a championship-caliber quarterback. They already know the offense can score points. What they don't know is whether Kincaid is ready to become the difference-maker they drafted him to be.
If the answer's yes, Buffalo's offense could reach another level.
