The start of training camp is a week away, and there are a lot of questions surrounding the Buffalo Bills heading into 2026.
How will the team look under first-year head coach Joe Brady? Will the receiving corps step up and be what quarterback Josh Allen needs? Will the defense learn how to stop the run?
There are so many unknowns entering the year that this season feels more uncertain than any of the last eight years. But it's not just about the team as a whole. You can look at individual players that have a bit of uncertainty surrounding the season.
One in particular is guard Alec Anderson.
Anderson re-signed with the Bills on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. With the departure of David Edwards to New Orleans, Anderson is pegged to be the starting left guard this season.
That said, his spot is written in pencil rather than ink right now.
The 27-year-old former undrafted free agent has carved himself a nice role with valuable playing time in his four years in Buffalo. This year is the best chance for him to become an every-down starter, but he's going to have competition behind him.
Buffalo signed offensive lineman Austin Corbett to a one-year, $1.4 million contract in March to provide depth on the line. However, he's not coming in just to be a depth piece. He has hopes of starting for the Bills.
Corbett comes to Buffalo after numerous injury-filled seasons. However, he also comes with over 90 NFL games under his belt and a starting role on the 2021 Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams.
In addition to Corbett, there are also 2023 seventh-round pick Nick Broeker and 2026 seventh-round pick Ar'maj Reed-Adams, who will look to earn their places on the roster. While neither of those two are expected to compete for a starting role this year, there's also a surprise or two in store during training camp when an open competition is taking place.
If Anderson is going to keep his expected starting role, he's going to have to prove that he can fit right in at guard with an offensive line that has become one of the most reliable in the NFL.
