Keenan Allen remains one of the most historically reliable free agents available. Could the veteran receiver be the perfect fit for the Buffalo Bills?
If the Buffalo Bills decide to make one more move before training camp, the most intriguing option may not be on the defensive side of the ball.
It might be veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen.
At first glance, adding another receiver might not seem like a priority. The Bills have already reshaped the position group this offseason, adding D.J. Moore while continuing to build around Khalil Shakir and hoping for a Year 3 jump from Keon Coleman. The team also appears excited about the potential of fourth-round rookie Skyler Bell.
But Allen would not have to come to Buffalo as a No. 1 receiver. In fact, that is exactly why he makes so much sense.
Unlike some of the bigger names still available, Allen's value at this stage of his career extends beyond simply putting up numbers. At 34, he's still been a productive receiver, but he also brings the kind of veteran leadership that could benefit a young position group that is trying to establish itself.
In 2024, with the Chicago Bears, Allen finished the season with 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in just 15 games. That was followed up with a 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers where he had 81 catches for 777 yards and four touchdowns.
Those aren't the numbers of a player who has nothing left in the tank.

The bigger question isn't whether Allen can still contribute. It is whether he would be willing to embrace a different kind of role.
Buffalo would not need him to be the focal point of the offense. With Moore expected to lead the receiving corps and Shakir continuing to be an important piece alongside quarterback Josh Allen, Keenan Allen could slot in as a reliable veteran target while helping mentor the team's younger receivers.
That mentorship aspect might be the most appealing part of the fit.
Coleman remains one of the Bills' most intriguing long-term pieces, but there remain questions around his future. Keenan Allen has built a career on being one of the league's best route runners and technicians rather than relying solely on athleticism. Over 13 NFL seasons, he has totaled more than 1,000 receptions, over 12,000 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns while earning six Pro Bowl selections.
For a young receiver room, there may not be a better player to learn from.
Keenan Allen also fits the type of move contenders often make this time of year. Veteran free agents frequently wait until closer to training camp or even the preseason to sign, allowing them to join teams with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations while avoiding much of the offseason grind.
The Bills certainly check that box.
None of this means a signing is imminent. There have also been no indications that Buffalo is pursuing Keenan Allen, and he may ultimately decide to wait for an opportunity to return to the Chargers or land somewhere with a clearer path to a starting role.
Still, if the Bills are looking to make one more addition before the season begins, Keenan Allen stands out as one of the few available players who could help in multiple ways.
