After a horrific end to the 2025 NFL season for the Buffalo Bills, general manager Brandon Beane wasted no time in beginning to improve the roster this offseason.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bills have traded for former Chicago Bears’ wide receiver DJ Moore and a fifth-round pick on Thursday morning in exchange for a second-round pick.
The move for a veteran pass catcher should come as no surprise to fans, as it was clear that the position was a top need for the organization heading into the 2026 NFL season.
Now, with Moore entering the mix prior to next season, the Bills’ most recent trade could have huge implications regarding the team’s offensive success.
David Banks-Imagn ImagesMoore, who orginially spent time with newly-hired head coach Joe Brady back in 2020 on the Carolina Panthers, will have some familiarity with his style of play on offense. During that season, Moore finished with 1,193 receiving yards, while averaging 18.1 yards per catch.
Most recently, however, the 28-year-old wideout spent the last three seasons with the Bears after being included in a deal that gave the Panthers the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Moore posted his last 1,000-yard season back in 2023, but since then, his numbers have steadily declined due to the addition of multiple young playmakers in Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland.
Luckily for the underrated wide receiver, Moore has the perfect opportunity to once again become a top receiving threat for the Bills in 2026. His ability to win at all three levels of the field with his route-running saviness is similar to that of former Buffalo Bills’ star Stefon Diggs, who played a key role in unlocking quarterback Josh Allen.
The addition of Moore now gives Buffalo a consistent, reliable WR1 for next season. Moore should take pressure off of 2022 fifth-round pick Khalil Shakir, who was forced into the top weapon role for the Bills over the past few years. With the wide receiver position in good hands with Moore and Shakir, Beane and the front office could focus on addressing the defensive side of the ball this offseason.
