The Denver Broncos are finally getting Bo Nix on the field, and the initial reports are positive.
The Denver Broncos have hit the field in training camp, which means we’re actually getting live looks at quarterback Bo Nix. Most of what we’ve heard before this week has consisted of optimistic quotes from coach Sean Payton and Nix himself, but yesterday it was tackle Mike McGlinchey who took to the mic in a report from Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post.
McGlinchey has been living football life with Nix lately, so he’s beenseeing Nix on a near-daily basis, and he’s never been all that worried about what Nix will look like going forward.
“He was here with us,” McGlinchey said yesterday. “There’s a group of us that live here full time, train here full time. I saw him every step of the way and he was checking all his boxes, attacking his rehab hard, as he always does everything.”
The Broncos have had two days of acclimation practice, and today’s practice will be open to fans. According to Gabriel, Nix has taken what appears to be a full set of starter reps and done a full array of practice work, although the Broncos haven’t been in pads yet.
“(His work is) the reason why he’s in position to be full-go from Day 1 to start,” McGlinchey said. “He looks great out there, he’s ready to compete and we’re excited to have him.”
It’s an encouraging report, and Payton was happy to chime in with some of his usual positivity, according to a report from Jeff Legwold of ESPN.
"Man, I'm pleased with the shape he's in,'' Broncos coach Sean Payton said after Wednesday's practice. " ...It's good to have him back out there in team periods."
As for the rest of the team, the Broncos have already done plenty of work in minicamp to set the stage for their effort to repeat as AFC West champs. Safety Talanoa Hufanga indicated as much in his comments about OTAs, and according to him the proverbial ramp-up period doesn’t really exist.
“To be honest, I think the tone was already set in OTAs,” Hufanga said. “I don’t really think there’s a ramp-up period right now. Everybody’s feet were on the field today and we were ready to go.”
McGlinchey echoed these sentiments, and none of this is surprising given that this is a veteran group.
“The tone is just a mindset and how you prepare,” McGlinchey said. “It doesn’t always have to be ‘hit each other in the mouth.’ The tone can be, ‘Hey we get great work in and let’s be professionals.’”
