Los Angeles Rams star Davante Adams had plenty of praise for Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II ahead of their Sunday night matchup.
Davante Adams knows all about going against Denver Broncos star Patrick Surtain II.
And the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver has developed plenty of respect for his longtime rival.
"I have a lot of respect for a lot of guys, but he's definitely up there as far as one of the ones I have the most respect for," Adams said of Surtain, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.
Adams added that Surtain has "a lot of stuff you can't teach at that position."
The two stars will renew their rivalry when the Broncos host the Rams on Sunday night.
Adams and Surtain became familiar with each other when Adams played for the Las Vegas Raiders. They have faced each other four times, and their matchups have produced memorable moments for both players.
Adams caught a 35-yard walk-off touchdown in overtime against Denver in 2022 with Surtain in coverage. But Adams acknowledged this week that Surtain got the better of him when they met again in Denver the following season.
"We've had some battles in the past," Adams said, according to the Rams' official website.
Another one could be coming Sunday.
Adams enters the matchup after catching eight passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams' Week 2 victory over the New York Giants.
Containing him could become even more important if Rams star Puka Nacua can't play against Denver.
Nacua was listed as doubtful Friday after missing practice all week with a hip injury.
Surtain, meanwhile, appears to be looking forward to seeing a familiar opponent.
"It's good battles, good competition," Surtain said this week. "It's going to be another battle on Sunday. Looking forward to it."
The Broncos haven't revealed whether Surtain will shadow Adams throughout the game.
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Denver determines how to deploy Surtain based on both personnel and scheme as the Broncos prepare for another major challenge against Matthew Stafford and the Rams.
With Nacua unlikely to play, however, the Adams-Surtain matchup could become one of the biggest individual battles of Sunday night's game.
