The Cleveland Browns are being named a landing spot for an interesting cornerback heading into the NFL season.
For the first time since before the 2017 season, the Cleveland Browns are entering the season without star pass rusher Myles Garrett on the defense.
Cleveland traded away Garrett this offseason, sending him to the Los Angeles Rams. Now without him on the roster, the Browns' defense could look a little different.
But the group of players still has a lot of talent within it, and the Browns aren't expecting much of a drop-off. This includes pass rusher Jared Verse, whom the team got in return for Garrett.
However, without Garrett, others on the defense will need to step up to fill the void left.
Cleveland has invested in the secondary recently, trading for cornerback Tyson Campbell to go along with Denzel Ward. But given the injury history of Ward, the Browns may want to consider adding another piece for depth purposes.
And ahead of the new NFL season starting, analyst Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report has mentioned an intriguing trade option. This would be Kristian Fulton of the Kansas City Chiefs, who is a former second-round pick out of LSU.
Last season, Fulton played in eight games (two starts) for the Chiefs. In that time, he recorded 16 total tackles and six pass deflections.
2026 wasn't the best season for Fulton, and it has seen him drop in the depth chart for Kansas City. The Chiefs added multiple pieces to the defense this year, and Fulton seems like the odd man out of the rotation.
This could open the door for a trade to take place, and the Browns should absolutely look to go after him. Fulton would bring plenty of experience to the defense, giving the secondary more credibility heading into the season.
Fulton wouldn't solve all the problems for the Browns, but he could help this team in the short run. The veteran has one more year left on his current contract, so Cleveland wouldn't be tying themselves to a long-term deal.
Overall, this move could help bolster the defense for the upcoming season, giving the Browns more to work with. There aren't too many negatives from a trade like this, and if Fulton is made available, Cleveland should be on the phone with Kansas City, trying to land his services for the upcoming year.
The Browns will open the 2026 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 13, kicking off the Todd Monken era.
