The Cleveland Browns' chances of landing Grant Udinski are now in jeopardy after a recent report on Tuesday morning.

As the Cleveland Browns and general manager Andrew Berry continue their quest to find a new head coach, the entire fanbase received some unfortunate news for one of the prime candidates on Tuesday morning.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Buffalo Bills have requested to interview Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive coordinator and Browns’ next head coaching favorite, Grant Udinski.

After the Browns decided to move on from former head coach Kevin Stefanski, the struggling organization quickly began searching for the next leader of the team. One of the names that started to surface was Udinski, due to his success with the Jaguars’ offense this past season.

Why Udinski?

While head coach Liam Coen was the play caller for Jacksonville in 2025, the 30-year-old rising star helped Coen in his efforts, averaging 337.4 yards per game and 222.3 passing yards per game.

In addition to his success this year, Udinski was the assistant offensive coordinator and assistant quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, paving the way for quarterback Sam Darnold to have an incredible season.

Since the beginning of the coaching search, the Browns have been keen on getting interviews with Udinski. And while the up-and-coming coordinator quickly became the fan-favorite to become the next head coach. However, Tuesday’s shocking news may hamper the franchise’s plans for the next head coach.

Despite Buffalo reaching the AFC Divisional round in 2025, the organization ultimately moved on from head coach Sean McDermott. Udinski was one of eight people that the Bills requested to interview, including offensive coordinator Joe Brady and ex-offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

If the Browns end up losing out on Udinski this offseason, Berry and the rest of the front office must pivot to the other candidates. Cleveland was in the running for former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, but lost out on him on Monday when it was reported that he will become the next offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Two names that the Browns could shift towards are defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and the Los Angeles Rams’ pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase. Schwartz is already familiar with the Browns’ current roster, while Scheelhaase comes from the rich Sean McVay coaching tree.
