Considering what the goal for the Los Angeles Chargers should be amidst the 0-6 start.
The Los Angeles Chargers have had a brutal start to the 2026 season as they are now 0-6 following the 22-6 loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
With the Chargers being 0-6, they are performing significantly below expectations. Before the year started, many believed that Los Angeles would be a playoff team and could even compete for the No. 1 spot in the AFC West.
Based on that, there is one key question that needs to be answered for the Chargers moving forward. What is the Chargers' goal for the 2026 season amidst the 0-6 start this season?
When it comes to answering this question, there are a variety of ways to go about it, but ultimately, it comes down to whether the Chargers can perform a lot more consistently on both sides of the ball, but in particular on the offensive side, which has been a real struggle, especially with quarterback Justin Hebert having a tough time getting used to the new offense under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Now getting back to the goal, obviously head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers would love to make the playoffs, however that is going to leave very little room for error if Los Angeles is going to make that happen as the Chargers already have six losses on the year and to make the playoffs, Los Angeles will more likely than not need a minimum of 10 wins.
With that said, the Chargers not only have little room form error, but additionally, their schedule is very difficult as they take on the Los Angeles Rams following the bye week, and after that they have the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens in back-to-back games.
So, when it comes to the goal for this team, there is no question that they want to make the playoffs with the current roster, but it is going to be a very tough task.
Now, as far as other goals, the Chargers have to figure out the players and the coaching staff that give this team the best chance to win moving forward, meaning that the players and the coaches have to prove themselves every week over the course of this season which is the case for every team, but specifically a team struggling like the Chargers.
On that note, it will be interesting to see if Herbert, Harbaugh, McDaniel, and the rest of this team can figure out more consistency together, because to this point, they have really struggled to mesh well as a group, which has been demonstrated by the 0-6 start.
So, as the Chargers progress, it will be interesting to see if they can stack wins together after their bye week, or if the focus shifts more toward the future and possibly leads to change depending on what Los Angeles believes is best for the organization to have success.
