In this past Sunday's win against the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton suffered a gruesome leg injury. His timetable for return has finally been revealed.

The Kansas City Chiefs have started the 2026-27 season on a great note, beginning the campaign undefeated at 4-0.

The latest entry to their comeback season had the Chiefs marching into enemy territory and winning against another undefeated team, the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sunday's 30-27 win at Allegiant Stadium was a classic AFC West clash, but with a new-look Raiders team.

There's much to be said about the game itself, in which Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked to be playing like his old self, newly acquired running back Kenneth Walker III continues to be one of the most dominant at the position across the NFL and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton's breakout campaign was in full effect.

The later, however, is what most Chiefs fans are talking about after Kansas City's win.

Thornton led the Chiefs in receiving yards, posting 111 yards on five receptions. His last catch of the day was a monster 55-yard gain, but his day, and possibly his season, ended there.

Thornton stood up to celebrate the catch, immediately falling back to the turf with an ankle injury that horrified the football world.

We won't show the injury here, but the 26-year-old's ankle was facing the wrong way.

After the game, ESPN's Ian Rapoport took to social media to report that Thornton had sustained a dislocated ankle -- a massive bullet dodged as it looked like it would have been broken.

Then, Rapoport followed up Monday afternoon with another great development. Thornton will miraculously be out for just 12-16 weeks.

Although the timeline for return is lengthy, it's the best-case scenario for Thornton and Kansas City. The WR could easily have had a broken ankle and been out for the foreseeable future. With the estimated recovery timeframe, it's entirely possible Thornton could be back for the playoffs.

The 26-year-old is leading the Chiefs' receiving corps. in receiving yards and only behind tight end Travis Kelce for receiving yards on the team.

Clearly, Mahomes has built up trust in Thornton and he's become a huge part of the Chiefs' offense -- so his absence will be a challenge for Kansas City in the remainder of the 2026-27 season.

If the Chiefs make no moves to replace Thornton while he's recovering from the dislocated ankle, WR Rashee Rice would be next in line to receive what would have been Thornton's targets.

If Kansas City does make a move, there's a free agent WR who already has a proven track record with Mahomes and company who would be a perfect fit.
