Patrick Mahomes and company remain elite title contenders after a gritty divisional victory, holding firm as the AFC's top-ranked squad while potential roster reinforcements loom large.

The Kansas City Chiefs somehow ran away with a win over the Las Vegas Raiders in a battle of undefeated AFC West teams at Allegiant Stadium in Week 4.

Kansas City escaped with a 30-27 victory, and on top of that, rumors are flying that Tyreek Hill could come to Kansas City, especially after the scary injury to breakout star Tyquan Thornton.

So, where do the Chiefs stand now? Well, they are still the top team in the AFC West, and Nick Shook of NFL.com kept Kansas City at No. 2, behind only the also-4-0 San Francisco 49ers.

The Baltimore Ravens are at No. 4 and the Denver Broncos are at No. 5, so the Chiefs are still viewed by many as the top team in the AFC.

"The average fan might view Sunday's four-quarter battle with the Raiders as a red mark on Kansas City's résumé. Not me. Las Vegas is scrappy and worthy of respect. Lesser teams would have crumbled in the desert," Shook wrote.

That is so true.

The Chiefs clawed, fought, and scratched their way back in a tough environment against a red-hot Raiders team, and in the end, Andy Reid's team prevailed.

The Chiefs were down 13-10 at halftime, then the Raiders took the lead back with a 19-17 score with less than 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs responded with back-to-back Kenneth Walker III touchdowns, and the second came after a muffed kickoff return by Las Vegas, so Kansas City made sure to capitalize on the miscues.

It was the second test of the season, as far as close games go. In Week 1, Kansas City had no issues with a 31-10 win over Denver, and in Week 3, Kansas City defeated the Miami Dolphins 24-14.

In Week 2, however, the Chiefs defeated the Indianapolis Colts in a 33-30 final in overtime in a thrilling finish. So, this marks twice in four games that Kansas City has escaped with wins in hard-fought games, which is certainly an encouraging sign going forward.

Kansas City likely won't move much since it has a bye in Week 5, although a 49ers loss could send the Chiefs to the top spot. In Week 5, the 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in a tough matchup.

After the bye, Kansas City faces the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead, so there is certainly a scenario where Reid's team continues to add wins.

If that is the case, Super Bowl talks should keep on being thrown around with this team, even with Patrick Mahomes playing his first few games after a torn ACL.
