Rising star Shedeur Sanders gets his shot under center against the Raiders. Can he deliver in his pivotal NFL debut?

Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Shedeur Sanders is headed for his first official NFL start, as head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Sanders will be the signal caller for Sunday’s road contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.

This means that Dillon Gabriel remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol and clearly hasn’t progressed enough to be in line to start, with Stefanski saying earlier this week that he would wait to see that process out before deciding. It’s been a quick ascent for the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

Here's the full story from Browns Roundtable writer Dylan Feltovich on how the Browns can set Sanders up for success this Sunday.

How Browns Can Set QB Shedeur Sanders Up For Success vs Raiders How Browns Can Set QB Shedeur Sanders Up For Success vs Raiders Here's how the Cleveland Browns can set rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders up for success on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Sanders was drafted No. 144 overall by the Browns in the 2025 NFL draft and began his career in Cleveland as the team’s No. 4 quarterback. Now, in Week 12, he’s the team’s starter – for now. He struggled in his debut when he came in for relief in place of Gabriel in the second half of their 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, where he completed 4-of-16 for 47 yards and an interception while being sacked twice.

Sanders wasn’t exactly set up to succeed in a mid-game quarterback change, after which Stefanski confirmed that those game snaps were Sanders’ first with the starting offense – at all. He’ll get valuable time to have reps with the ones as he prepares to start this weekend.

The news also comes shortly after it was announced that Sanders’ home was broken into and he had approximately $200k in property stolen.
