INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Saturday that they activated outside linebacker Khalil Mack (elbow) and linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle) from Injured Reserve, allowing them to be active for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
The news is great timing for the Chargers, and not so much for the Colts. While the Los Angeles defense started the season strong, in the last two weeks, they've yielded an average of 27 points and 365 yards to opponents. They also have just three sacks in that time.
The Chargers have been incredibly snake-bitten with injuries this season. Their injury report from Friday included 15 injured players, nine of whom were labeled as out, doubtful, or questionable.
Chargers offensive tackle Trey Pipkins III (knee) has already been ruled out, offensive tackle Joe Alt (ankle) and safety Elijah Molden (thumb) are doubtful, and wide receiver Derius Davis (knee), linebacker Troy Dye (thumb), running back Hassan Haskins (chest), guard Jamaree Salyer (knee). Mack and Perryman were questionable but have now been removed from the injury report.
For the Colts, wide receivers Josh Downs (concussion) and Ashton Dulin (chest), running back Tyler Goodson (groin), and cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. (concussion) are out. Cornerback Kenny Moore II (Achilles) is listed as questionable, but is expected to play. Ward was placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday, causing him to miss at least the next four games.
This was likely to be a tough test for the Colts offense, regardless of Mack's availability, as the Chargers' defense ranks seventh in the NFL in yards allowed and 12th in points allowed.
Led by quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Jonathan Taylor, the Colts' offense is first in points and ranks fourth in yards (fifth in passing and sixth in rushing). Taylor has been No. 1 in the NFL in rushing yards for several weeks.
The Colts visit the Chargers on Sunday at SoFi Stadium at 4:05 p.m. E.T., which can be viewed on CBS.
