INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts host the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday in their preseason home opener following two joint practices between the teams earlier in the week.
Neither team plans to play its starters, though the Colts may field some significant young players, as they did last week.

There should be some prominent first- and second-year players in this matchup who project to play serious snaps in the regular season, perhaps including linebackers CJ Allen and Bryce Boettcher, safety A.J. Haulcy, defensive end Jaylahn Tuimoloau, and safety Hunter Wohler.
At quarterback, the battle for QB2 continues, as Riley Leonard gets the start and will play throughout the first half, while Anthony Richardson Sr. get the second half. Head coach Shane Steichen said on Thursday that he doesn't have a timetable to decide the winner and that he'll let the competition ride itself out.
The Colts could be in a precarious spot at running back. Jonathan Taylor almost certainly won't play. DJ Giddens missed about a week with a hamstring injury and hasn't fully returned, and Ulysses Bentley IV left Thursday's practice early with an ankle injury. The only healthy runners right now are Seth McGowan and Anderson Castle if Giddens and Bentley don't play.
At wide receiver, since the Colts added veteran Keenan Allen this week, the battle for the final spot or two has become quite interesting. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine vs. Laquon Treadwell is one to watch that was directly impacted by Allen's addition. The kickoff and punt return duties will likely also weigh heavily into who makes it between Anthony Gould, Coleman Owen, and Deion Burks. Gould has been out since last week with a groin injury, and Owen has seen the lion's share of the work at punt returner.
Tight end Will Mallory will look to continue his terrific summer after repeatedly making plays in camp and then leading all pass-catchers with six catches for 80 yards in last week's preseason opener against the New England Patriots. He'll be joined by some new faces as the Colts have signed Tyler Moore and JJ Galbreath in recent days following injuries to Tyler Warren and Carson Towt.
The offensive line was thrown a curveball over the last couple of weeks with offensive tackles Luke Tenuta and Nolan Rucci being sidelined with injuries. We've seen much more of Josh Sills at tackle as a result.
On the defensive line, can rookies Caden Curry and George Gumbs Jr. keep up their high level of play? Both had sacks in last week's game.
Linebacker still needs sorted out. Akeem Davis-Gaither didn't play last week and presumably won't this week either, likely because he'll be considered a starter. Allen didn't play, but he was nursing a hamstring injury. Boettcher, Austin Ajiake, Jaylon Carlies, and Tahj Chambers all had strong outings.
There may not be any roster spots open at corner, but both Jaylon Jones and Rob Carter Jr. have made compelling arguments to make it.
