The Indianapolis Colts added some reinforcements at tight end for the preseason.
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Friday that they have signed free agent tight end JJ Galbreath and waived cornerback Jai’Onte' McMillan.
Galbreath (6'4", 231, 25 years old) originally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft out of South Dakota, where he was a First-Team FCS All-American and First-Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference.
In college, he caught 93 balls for 1,355 yards (14.6 avg.) and 12 touchdowns in 45 games (30 starts). Prior to the 2025 draft, Galbreath tested well for the tight end position, running a 4.68-second 40-yard dash, with a 38.0" vertical, a 10'03" broad jump, and a three-cone time of 6.82 seconds.
Galbreath played 106 offensive snaps for Pittsburgh during the 2025 preseason, catching three-of-five targets for 23 yards (7.7 avg.). He also played 33 special teams snaps, seeing action on every special teams unit except for field goal block.
Galbreath spent part of 2025 on the Steelers' practice squad before signing a reserve/future contract with them in January. He was also selected by the Orlando Storm of the United Football League (UFL) in January's UFL draft.
The Colts needed reinforcements at tight end, with starter Tyler Warren nursing a groin injury and Carson Towt on Injured Reserve. Veteran Mo Alie-Cox and perhaps Drew Ogletree also likely won't play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons. Galbreath would join Will Mallory, Pharaoh Brown, and Tyler Moore as the tight ends most likely to play.
The Colts signed McMillan (5'10", 190) on June 1 as a rookie undrafted free agent. He began his college career at TCU (2020-23) before transferring to Minnesota (2024-25). He started 4 of 55 career games and played 728 total defensive snaps. He totaled 55 tackles (2.5 for loss), 1.0 sack, 1 interception, and 5 pass breakups. McMillan spent 321 snaps either playing the slot or in the box, even playing a handful at safety. He also played quite a bit on special teams throughout his career, totaling 477 snaps.
McMillan played 17 defensive snaps for the Colts last week in their preseason opener against the New England Patriots and one on special teams.
With the Colts, McMillan was arguably the last cornerback on the depth chart, helping to fill in at nickel behind Justin Walley and Cam Taylor-Britt.
After waiving McMillan, the Colts now have Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward Sr., Walley, Taylor-Britt, Mekhi Blackmon, Johnathan Edwards, Jaylon Jones, Rob Carter Jr., and Mekhi Rodgers at cornerback.
