INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts have announced several roster moves this week in the wake of their 31-27 victory over the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.

The Colts placed backup quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. on Injured Reserve with an orbital bone (eye) fracture that he suffered in a freak accident in the locker room before Sunday's game.

To fill Richardson's spot on the roster, the Colts claimed defender Reuben Lowery III off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens. They also signed offensive tackle Bayron Matos to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Marcellus Johnson from the practice squad.

Richardson was warming up for Sunday's game with a resistance band workout when he was struck in the face, injuring his eye. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. On Monday, Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that Richardson "will definitely miss some time."

The Colts will explore outside options for a third quarterback behind Daniel Jones, with Riley Leonard.

Lowery (5'9", 204, 23 years old) is an undrafted rookie from UT-Chattanooga, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens following the 2025 draft and made the initial 53-man roster before he was waived last Saturday. He played in three games for Baltimore, starting one, and totaled five tackles in 76 defensive snaps.

The rookie lined up in multiple spots on defense, seeing 36 snaps at free safety, 29 in the box, 10 in the slot, and one out wide. He also played 22 special teams snaps between the kickoff coverage and kickoff return teams.

"Yeah, I mean you never know with these type (of) guys," Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said Tuesday as to what the team can do with Lowery. "We're anxious to get them in the building and take a look and see what he actually can and can't do. So, glad we have him. Glad he's here.

"Once we get a chance to get around him a little bit, then we'll kind of finalize and see what kind of role we can develop for him."

Lowery joins a Colts safety group already featuring Cam Bynum, Nick Cross, Rodney Thomas II, and Trey Washington.

Matos was an undrafted rookie last year out of South Florida who signed with the Miami Dolphins and spent 2024 on their practice squad as a member of the International Player Pathway Program. He originally attended New Mexico as a basketball player before transferring to USF to continue playing basketball before ultimately settling into football. He played defensive line and special teams initially before becoming an offensive tackle.

On the Dolphins' first day of training camp this summer, Matos was airlifted to the hospital with an "above the shoulder type injury" before being waived during preseason roster cuts.
