WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday morning that they waived-injured cornerback Cameron Mitchell and signed rookie undrafted free agent cornerback Mekhi Rodgers. If Mitchell clears waivers on Tuesday, he will revert to the team's Injured Reserve list.

Mitchell joined the Colts' practice squad in early October last season after two games with the Cleveland Browns. He was originally a fifth-round pick by them in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Northwestern and had started four games for the Browns in his two-plus seasons.

After joining the Colts, he was promoted to the active roster less than a month later and played in eight games. He saw 225 snaps on defense and another 20 on special teams.

Mitchell got off to a strong start this offseason, breaking up multiple passes during OTAs/minicamp and recently in training camp. He even returned an interception for a touchdown off a tipped Anthony Richardson Sr. pass on the second day of training camp.

Mitchell was a dark horse candidate to make the Colts' regular-season roster in a loaded cornerback room, also potentially making an impact on special teams, where there are multiple prime spots waiting to be filled.

The fourth-year corner was injured late in last Friday's practice (Day 3), having a shoulder looked at, and missed the next two practices on Saturday and Monday.

In 40 career games (five starts), Mitchell has 61 tackles (four for loss), 1.0 sack, one QB hit, and eight pass breakups.

Colts Sign Another Rookie Camp Tryout

Rodgers (6'1", 197) went undrafted this spring out of James Madison and was invited to the Colts' rookie minicamp in May for a tryout.

The Colts signed him on Monday morning following a workout that also included cornerbacks Ricardo Hallman and Zech McPhearson, and wide receiver Jakobie Keeney-James.

Rodgers was at Colts training camp practice on Monday, observing the cornerback group, but did not yet participate.

He ascended his level of competition throughout his college career, starting at Hobart College (Division III) from 2022-23, transferring to Saint Francis in 2024, and then JMU in 2025.

In 43 career games (22 starts), Rodgers totaled 69 tackles (2.5 for loss), three interceptions, and 18 pass breakups.

According to Pro Football Focus, Rodgers played 257 special teams snaps over the last two years at James Madison and Saint Francis, but they do not keep track of the Division III snaps he would've taken at Hobart.

The Colts' cornerback room is now made up of Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward Sr., Justin Walley, Cam Taylor-Britt, Mekhi Blackmon, Johnathan Edwards, Jaylon Jones, Rob Carter Jr., Jai'Onte' McMillan, and Rodgers.
