INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts are finally pulling the trigger on a move that has felt inevitable for several months.
On Wednesday morning, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the Colts are signing free-agent linebacker Germaine Pratt to a one-year deal.
According to Pelissero, "Four other teams called with interest, but Pratt really wanted to reunited with his former Bengals DC Lou Anarumo in Indy."
Pratt requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals in February. Immediately, many people drew a line to Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, who had recently been hired by the Colts after being Pratt's coordinator in Cincinnati from 2019-24.
The Bengals ultimately cut Pratt in June, and he was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders the next day. Pratt and the Raiders recently parted ways, as he did not travel with the team to Indianapolis last weekend for their game against the Colts, and he was released at the start of the week.
Two days later, what once felt inevitable has finally happened as Pratt becomes a Colt.
A former third-round pick by the Bengals in 2019, in 100 career games (92 starts), Pratt has totaled 641 tackles (33 for loss), 3.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, seven forced fumbles, five fumbles recovered, seven interceptions, and 25 pass breakups.
The Colts could use some help at linebacker alongside starting MIKE Zaire Franklin.
According to Pro Football Focus, not a single Colts linebacker has a grade above 60.0, which is considered the low end of average. At times, there have been issues with run fits, converting tackles, and allowing shallow passes over the middle.
