INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts have some major adjustments to make this offseason in order to right the ship and end their five-year playoff hiatus. One adjustment they don't want to make, however, is replacing defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, who has a pair of head-coaching interviews with the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Anarumo will interview for the Titans' vacancy on Wednesday. It's not yet known when Anarumo will interview for the Giants' job, but NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said it's "in the near future."
“Certainly, I'd lie to you if I said down the road, that wasn't something that would be a career goal," Anarumo answered in November regarding his name being mentioned as a head-coaching candidate, while then deflecting attention to that week's opponent.
The Titans fired former head coach Brian Callahan on Oct. 13 following a 1-5 start to the regular season and a 4-19 overall record. Tennessee's defense finished No. 21 in the NFL in yards allowed (345.1 YPG) and 28th in points allowed (28.1 PPG) in 2025.
The Giants fired Brian Daboll on Nov. 10 after the team began the season 2-8. He had a record of 20-40-1 overall in New York. Their defense finished 28th in yards (359.5 YPG) and 26th in scoring (25.8 PPG).
Anarumo was immediately connected to the New York opening when it happened, as he and general manager Joe Schoen have a connection from their days together with the Miami Dolphins. Anarumo was a defensive back coach and interim defensive coordinator there from 2012-17. Schoen held the titles of national scout, assistant director of college scouting, and director of player personnel in Miami between 2008-16.
Anarumo was also the Giants' defensive backs coach for one season in 2018.
The Colts' defense in 2025 was a polarizing group to fans, but an improvement from previous coordinator Gus Bradley, nonetheless. The Colts finished 23rd in yards (349.8 YPG) and tied-20th in scoring (24.2 PPG).
Colts decision-makers believe in the direction in which the defense (and the team) is moving after dealing with injuries throughout the year to key players such as defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (missed seven games), cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. (missed 10 games), cornerbacl Sauce Gardner (missed most of five games), slot defender Kenny Moore II (missed three games), cornerback Justin Walley (missed whole season), and safety/linebacker Hunter Wohler (missed whole season).
