The Indianapolis Colts signed a former Los Angeles Chargers second-round pick, who last played in 2022.

The Indianapolis Colts need help at safety and corner, and depending on how they view Kansas State DB VJ Payne, he could help them in both areas.

The Indianapolis Colts continue to address the defensive secondary heading into next week's 2026 NFL Draft, as they have signed free agent safety Nasir Adderley.

Adderley (6'0", 206, 28 years old) is a former Los Angeles Chargers second-round pick (No. 60 overall) out of Delaware in the 2019 NFL Draft, who last played in 2022 when he retired at the expiration of his rookie contract.

In 50 career games (44 starts), Adderley has 232 tackles (four for loss), 0.5 sack, three QB hits, two forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered, three interceptions, and 12 pass breakups.

He also returned kickoffs briefly in 2020 and 2021, returning 14 for 366 yards (26.1 avg.).

Adderley played 2,767 defensive snaps in four seasons, as well as 371 on special teams. Defensively, he most commonly lined up at free safety (1,941 snaps), followed by 515 snaps in the box, 301 in the slot, and another 10 out wide.

The Chargers' pass defense ranked inside the top 12 in the NFL during all four years of Adderley's time with the Chargers.

The Colts are fielding a veteran-laden safety group that should feature plenty of competition throughout training camp.

Cam Bynum is the only one with a firm role, as he is the starting free safety. Competing for spots alongside Adderley are Hunter Wohler, Juanyeh Thomas, and Jonathan Owens, with Daniel Scott, Reuben Lowery III, Trey Washington, and Ben Nikkel providing depth.

The Colts lost Rodney Thomas II in free agency this offseason to the Seattle Seahawks. He played 150 snaps for the Colts last year as the third safety, usually at free safety, and was a core special teamer. Adderley may compete with Owens directly for that role.
