INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — An unexpected name popped up on the Indianapolis Colts' injury report on Thursday, as quarterback Daniel Jones was listed as a limited participant with a calf injury.
Early in practice during the portion open to the media, Colts quarterbacks were working on positional drills while Jones was off to the side with a trainer, appearing to discuss one of Jones' lower legs. After a few minutes, Jones jogged back over to the group of quarterbacks and didn't appear to be limping or favoring the leg in any significant way.
Shortly thereafter, the open portion of practice concluded, so it's not known to what extent Jones was limited. Outside of Jones, the injury report was positive for the Colts.
The week already started out well on Wednesday as they got a pair of Injured Reserve-listed defenders back on the practice field in Charvarius Ward Sr. (concussion) and Jaylon Carlies (ankle).
Defensive end Samson Ebukam (knee) also ended a five-week injury hiatus on Wednesday before things got even better on Thursday as fellow defensive end Tyquan Lewis (groin) joined his team at practice for the first time in three weeks.
Here's how each team's health is shaping up ahead of Sunday afternoon's battle:
THURSDAY
Until the Colts hold their normal Friday practice (11:55 a.m. ET), followed by head coach Shane Steichen addressing the media afterward (12:55 p.m. ET), all attention will be on Jones' calf.
Defensively, with Ward, Carlies, Ebukam, and Lewis all returning to the practice field, the Colts' defense is set up for a surge on the back end of the schedule. However, who all actually gets on the field this Sunday at Arrowhead?
WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY
Kansas City's starting left guard, Suamataia, suffered a concussion last week against the Denver Broncos and did not practice on Wednesday, although he did return in a limited capacity on Thursday. His status will need monitoring. With the Colts being without top defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (IR-neck), it could lessen the impact of both teams on the interior.
Likewise, arguably the Chiefs' most explosive player, Worthy, was out on Wednesday with an ankle injury before returning in a limited fashion on Thursday. He is a significant speed threat, so the Chiefs will need to be careful with how the injury could alter his effectiveness.
The Colts and Chiefs face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The game can be viewed on CBS.
