It's time for another edition of "Colts Qs," where readers get all their questions answered by someone on the ground every day observing the team.

This week, Roundtable reader have their sights set on the near future and the Indianapolis Colts making a serious run. Let's get to it!

Some questions have been edited for clarity.

"Is now the time for the Colts to be active in the trade market? If so, who should they target?"

"Should The Colts Make a play for Riq Woolen to play opposite of (Mooney) Ward?"

    --colts0518, X/Twitter

I do think it would be wise for the Colts to pull a move by the November 4 trade deadline, as long as it's not too costly. A move for a starting-level cornerback or a productive pass-rusher could do this defense a lot of good.

I don't think the Colts would give up a first-round pick for anyone, in-season, but names I would feel compelled to look into: New York Giants edge Brian Burns, New Orleans Saints edge Carl Granderson, Cincinnati Bengals edge Trey Hendrickson (if they keep spiraling), Miami Dolphins edge Jaelen Phillips, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Joshua Williams, and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen. I'd mentioned Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II in the last edition of "Colts Qs," but he was just traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.

"Before this year, some people compared (Daniel Jones') skill set as similar to Gardner Minshew…and Joe Flacco has been in the league 1,000 years and can read a defense well, you’d think. So why did the offense look relatively ok to bad with those guys yet looks like a Super Bowl contender now?"
    --Philip Schatz, X/Twitter

I think the Colts have reached a point now where everything is in place for success. The plan is clear, and there's no mystery about what they are and what they want to do. The offensive line is playing at a high level, which has helped Jonathan Taylor look like the best version of himself on the ground. The pass-catchers are displaying such well-rounded abilities and converting on their opportunities, which includes the addition of the ultimate X-factor player in Tyler Warren. Lastly, the chemistry between Shane Steichen and Daniel Jones, as playcaller and quarterback, has been as good as any pairing in the NFL this year. Jones is also playing the best football of his life, putting everyone in the best position to succeed.

In short, the infrastructure is there, and the synergy between coaching and player execution has been outstanding.

"I heard substantiated reports during the preseason that Riley Leonard would start. What does the timetable look like for that?"
    --thomas, X/Twitter

That was never the Colts' plan for this year, so I can't answer for that. My assumption has been that they would like Leonard to be the long-term backup.

"Hey Jake, love your work. Does the Colts brass believe they are in win-now mode and do you see any moves for Indianapolis?"

    --Lane Burks, X/Twitter

Thanks, Lane! I think nearly every move Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen have made since the offseason suggests they're planning to win now. They were more aggressive than ever in free agency, as they truly felt guys like Jones, Charvarius Ward, and Cam Bynum were immediate improvements and culture changers. In the past, the Colts have also allowed younger depth players to fill in for important injured players to see how it goes, in the name of development. Now, if someone gets hurt, they're bringing in established veterans for workouts, and they usually sign one. Also, their willingness to throw just about any player to Lou Anarumo that he wants shows a level of trust that we haven't seen in a while. They're buying in on themselves, for sure. As long as they keep winning, they'll do what it takes to stay at the top of their game.
