The Indianapolis Colts (2-3) are looking to rebound and make a strong statement on Sunday as they welcome the winless Tennessee Titans (0-5) to Lucas Oil Stadium.
After winning two consecutive games, last week, the Colts came out uninspired in a 34-22 loss on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It dropped them below .500, but it was also the type of game the Colts needed to win if they were to be taken seriously as a postseason contender.
The Colts are currently known for beating bad teams and struggling against good ones. They've lost 18 of their last 21 games against teams with a winning record. This is one of the games they typically dominate, as FanDuel Sportsbook has the Colts as 6.5-point favorites. So, if they barely eke out a victory or, God forbid, lose, serious red flags will be raised.
Here is how the ColtsRoundtable staff sees Sunday's game unfolding.
Jake Arthur (@JakeArthurNFL): Colts 34, Titans 16
"There are two huge Colts signatures that we've yet to see this season that they're overdue for: a huge Jonathan Taylor performance, and a game where the defense forces multiple takeaways.
"Taylor has been good this year, averaging over 100 yards from scrimmage per game and scoring six touchdowns, but he's yet to run for over 100 yards in a game since Week 10 of last season, or even have a run beyond 25 yards since Week 12 last year. Both things change on Sunday as the Colts' offensive line imposes its will and Taylor takes advantage with his trademark vision, patience, and burst.
"Defensively, the Colts' exterior rush will continue to flounder outside of blitzes, but they will get enough pressure on Titans quarterback Cam Ward to force him into a critical mistake or two.
"The Colts will control this one and get a smothering three-score victory."
Jake on the season: 2-3
Zach Hicks (@ZachHicks2): Colts 26, Titans 13
"The Colts head back home after a disappointing loss to the Steelers in Week 5. They face off against the 0-5 Titans, a team that Shane Steichen has never lost to in his time as the Colts’ head coach.
"The Colts should have the advantage attacking the middle of the field in the passing game, and Taylor historically feasts in this matchup. Ward has also been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL when not blitzed this year (ranking 36th out of 37 qualified passers in Expected Points Added [EPA]), and the Colts prefer to sit back in coverage.
"Overall, this is a game the Colts should win, even if it doesn’t move the needle much in terms of hope for the season."
Zach on the season: 4-1
The Colts take on the Titans at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
