The Washington Commanders worked out a trio of players on Tuesday, including two in the front seven, amid four key contributors battling injuries

The Washington Commanders are battling a handful of notable injuries coming out of the week one loss against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road, giving the front office a chance to evaluate a pair of defenders in the front seven for workouts ahead of week two.

Both linebacker Anfernee Orji and edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr. joined tight end Rivaldo Fairweather for workouts on Tuesday, per Aaron Wilson.

Orji, 25, became an undrafted free agent in 2023 before he signed with the New Orleans Saints where he played on the practice squad. He was then waived in the summer of 2025 before the Tennessee Titans claimed him, only to waive him three months later with an injury designation after suffering a torn ACL during practice. Orji was then signed by the New York Giants in July 2026 before being waived in late August as part of the final round of roster cuts, potentially giving him a chance to stick in the NFC East to add depth.

Jones, 22, is looking to latch on in the NFL as an undrafted free agent. After stints at Georgia, Florida State and Oklahoma to close out his college career, Jones signed with the Seattle Seahawks in May before being waived as part of final roster cuts ahead of the regular season, then placed on the practice squad.

Fairweather, 24, is in his second season in the NFL after the Florida International and Auburn product signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He was then signed by the Arizona Cardinals at the end of the regular season before being waived ahead of the 2026 regular season.

Washington also hosted SMU linebacker Jahfari Harvey and Nevada linebacker Emany Johnson for workouts, along with Holy Cross defensive end Benton Whitley.

Whether the long list of of free agents are indicative of the status of the quartet of injured Commanders is the question, though safety Tyler Owens downplayed his ankle injury during an appearance on Good Morning Football on Tuesday morning. Head coach Dan Quinn noted that he expects to get a better feel for game status on all four players in question during Wednesday's practice as the Commanders look to maintain health to start the regular season after battling the injury bug through training camp and preseason.

The Commanders are set for the second of two consecutive divisional road games to open the 2026 regular season when they travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 20 for another 4:25 PM ET kickoff on FOX.
