The Washington Commanders are still awaiting further word on the status of several injured players ahead of the week two meeting vs. Dallas
The Washington Commanders fell in game one against the Philadelphia Eagles after a failed two point attempt cemented a 24-22 loss on the road to open the regular season in a hole. Yet the Commanders also saw several key contributors depart Sunday's game early, while the status of several players remains uncertain heading into the rest of the week.
Head coach Dan Quinn noted that he will get a better picture on the game status on all the four injured players -- linebackers Frankie Luvu and Jordan Magee, tight end Chig Okonkwo and safety Tyler Owens -- on Wednesday as the team prepares for week two in the meantime.
Linebacker Frankie Luvu was the first player to go down after he suffered a groin injury and was ruled questionable at halftime. Luvu posted four tackles, including one solo, and registered one of the team's three sacks in the loss. The veteran also sported 'green dot' responsibilities during training camp with his injury marking a notable absence for the inside linebacker room on Sunday.
In his first game as a Commander, tight end Chig Okonkwo was ruled as questionable in the final minute of the third quarter due to a hamstring injury, leaving John Bates as the primary receiving target the rest of the way. Okonkwo posted a pair of catches for 16 yards on three targets, including a 15 yard reception that set the offense up with a scoring chance that ended with Stevens' 54 yard missed field goal midway through the third quarter.
Linebacker Jordan Magee, who battled a chest injury during training camp, suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled questionable to return prior to the game's final two warning, ending his game with a pair of tackles, including one solo. The injury to both Luvu and Magee could put a bigger emphasis on Kain Medrano depending on the ultimate status through the rest of the week.
Safety Tyler Owens was ruled questionable to return due to an ankle injury that suffered in punt return coverage in the second-to-last play of the third quarter. The hard hitting safety posted a pair of solo tackles while he went viral for a textbook play as the gunner on special teams, emphasizing why he carved out a spot on the 53-man roster during preseason.
The Commanders are set to stay on the road this week as they prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday, Sept. 20 with kickoff set for 4:25 PM ET on FOX.
