The Washington Commanders officially announced the signing of cornerback Rasul Douglas on Monday, while also watching one special teams ace end his NFL career.

The Washington Commanders are set to kick off training camp on Wednesday with veterans arriving on Tuesday after rookies reported last Friday, July 24. While head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters are expected to address the media on Tuesday, the Commanders made a pair of roster decisions official on Monday afternoon.

The first was the addition of veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas, whose deal was reported back in early July. Douglas, 30, arrives in a critical role in the secondary with his presence magnified after Trey Amos was placed on in the physically unable to perform list ahead of training camp. Douglas is coming off a strong season with the Dolphins where he posted 13 pass deflections and a pair of interceptions in 13 starts and 15 appearances in 2025. Douglas also allowed just a 54.5% completion percentage and three touchdowns on 77 targets.

His arrival will serve as a key piece in a secondary that also added Nick Cross to the safety room this offseason, but it also came at a cost after the Commanders announced a corresponding roster move.

Washington announced that Nick Bellore has been placed on the reserve/retired list.

Bellore, who was listed as a linebacker while also carving out a role as an ace on special teams, spent two seasons with the organization after coming into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan following the 2011 NFL Draft.

Bellore began his NFL career with the New York Jets for four seasons before moving onto the San Francisco 49ers then Detroit Lions for two seasons each. His four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks materialized into two Pro Bowl selections, first in 2020 then in 2023, before signing with the Commanders on practice squad ahead of the 2024 season.

Bellore was then promoted to the active roster in week two of the 2024 season where he logged 21 total tackles, including 11 solo, in 16 total appearances. He then matched that number of games played in his second and final season with the organization after totaling 12 tackles, including seven solo.

Over his 15 year career in the NFL, Bellore accumulated 280 total tackles, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one sack across over 230 games played. His lone NFL interception came against the Seattle Seahawks in week two of the 2016 season during his stint in with the San Francisco 49ers.
