Washington Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore was taken into custody and later released on Wednesday night after being arrest for carrying concealed weapons and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, according to police.
Per reports, Lakewood Police arrest Lattimore in the 11700 block of Clifton Boulevard on Jan. 7 at approximately 6:14 p.m., police records show. No charges have been filed, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.
The Washington Commanders issued a statement early on Thursday afternoon on his arrest.
"We have been made aware of the arrest and are gathering more information. We are in communication with the NFL League Office and have no further comment at this time."
This marks the latest arrest for Lattimore, who was previously arrested in November 2021 after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon, a first-degree misdemeanor in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
The arrest also adds to complications about Lattimore's future with the organization.
The former Ohio State cornerback was acquired midway through the 2024 season in exchange for three draft picks, along with a fifth round pick sent back to Washington. But the results have far from lived up to expectations through one and a half seasons with the Commanders.
He joined the organization battling a hamstring injury that impacted him through the rest of the 2024 season after hopes the former All-Pro cornerback would upgrade the secondary ahead of the eventual NFC Championship game appearance. 2025 would not fare much better for Lattimore after grading as the Commanders' worst cornerback, per PFF, before being sidelined the rest of the season.
Lattimore suffered a season-ending torn ACL during the week nine loss against the Seattle Seahawks, ending a disappointing second season with the team amid a setback season for the defense.
Washington already enters the offseason among the most projected cap space in the NFL with over $81 million currently, and the front office has a chance to make a decision with Lattimore, whose future with the franchise was already questionable at best.
Releasing Lattimore would add an additional $18.5 million in cap space with no more guaranteed money on his contract, pushing the Commanders to nearly $100 million available for general manager Adam Peters to retool the roster.
"Really high," Peters said of Lattimore at the 2025 NFL scouting combine. "With Marshon, I spoke about it at the end of the year and he came into a tough situation. He competed his tail off and he's the type of guy that we want on the field. We're really excited to have him in this offseason to build with him."
Lattimore becomes one of several roster decisions for the Washington Commanders with several stay or go decisions to be made among the over 30 players on the 2025 roster set to hit the open market in free agency this offseason.
In two games with Washington in 2024, Lattimore posted four tackles and three pass breakups. He ended the 2025 season with 27 total tackles, one interception and seven pass breakups in nine games.
