Days after re-signing a versatile offensive lineman, the Washington Commanders have elected to release one of their starters over the last two seasons

The Washington Commanders will have one unexpected departure along the offensive line with a hole to fill ahead of the 2026 season.

The Commanders are releasing starting center Tyler Biadasz, per multiple reports.

Biadasz started all but one game at center for Washington in 2025 and 31 games over the last two seasons, while the move adds $2.8 million to the team's available cap space along with $8 million in dead money.

The starting center missed the regular season finale win against Philadelphia after head coach Dan Quinn revealed that he injured both his knee and ankle in the Christmas Day loss against the Dallas Cowboys.

"No surgery at this time, but something that will knock him out likely for this week, but no surgeries," head coach Dan Quinn said ahead of the final game. "That's good, of where we're at, but certainly not at a level where he's got the mobility and movement just yet."

Biadasz had one additional year on his contract including a $1 million roster bonus while he was in line for a nearly $11 million cap hit.

The departure also makes Nick Allegretti the lone offensive lineman still on the roster with experience at center.

Biadasz, 28, was a fourth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys after becoming a unanimous All-American, two-time first team All Big Ten and winner of the Rimington Trophy during his final season at Wisconsin. Once with the Cowboys, he was named to the Pro Bowl in the second to last season with the team before transitioning to the Commanders when he signed a three year, $30 million contract ahead of the 2024 season, reuniting with head coach Dan Quinn where he replaced Nick Gates and Tyler Larsen as the starter.

The news also comes three days after the team re-signed versatile offensive lineman Andrew Wylie to a new two-year contract.

“He’s what we would call a true Commander in terms of his work ethic, his competitiveness. He’s an elite teammate and he’s super versatile,” general manager Adam Peters said of Wylie, who played over 1,100 combined snaps at guard and tackle over the last two seasons.

Meanwhile general manager Adam Peters shied away from a more specific timetable for an extension for star left tackle Laremy Tunsil before adding "we're as motivated as ever to get that done." Tunsil is entering the final year of his contract though the expectation is that Washington inks a long-term deal with the man who Peters called the best tackle in football during his first season with the organization.
