After working out three defensive backs on Tuesday, the Washington Commanders have announced two practice squad additions
The Washington Commanders have filled its two vacancies on the practice squad after announcing two signings on Wednesday morning, including a familiar name back with the organization.
Outside linebacker TJ Maguranyanga joins safety Darren Hall as the two replacement signings on the practice squad to finalize the 16-man roster. The news surfaced after running back Robert Henry Jr. signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, along with one day after cornerback Terell Smith signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
T.J. Maguranyanga, 23, now rejoins the Commanders, an organization he was plenty familiar with. After playing rugby in South Africa growing up, Maguranyanga joined the NFL's International Player Pathway program in Dec. 2024 before being signed by the Commanders in April ahead of the 2025 regular season. He then materialized into a roster cut casualty late in training camp before re-joining the practice squad, then inking a reserve/futures contract once the calendar officially turned to 2026. He was waived again ahead of the 2026 season and released with an injury settlement just over one month ago. His lone NFL appearance materialized during the primetime loss against the Denver Broncos in 2025 where Maguranyanga tallied one total tackle.
Hall, 26, became a fourth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and began his career with the Atlanta Falcons where he tallied 72 total tackles, six pass deflections and one fumble recovery across ten starts and 31 appearances. After briefly spending time on the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad in 2023, Hall then bounced between the Arizona Cardinals and Colts during the offseason into the 2024 regular season before sticking in Arizona and bouncing between the active roster and practice squad. Hall amassed 22 total tackles across two starts and 17 appearances during his two seasons with the organization.
Hall arrives in Washington where he can add to the cornerback options available to head coach Dan Quinn with growing uncertainty on the status of Trey Amos, who is eligible to come off injured reserve this week. Defensive coordinator Daronte Jones has turned to Amik Robertson and Rasul Douglas to lead the 2026 cornerback room with Fabian Moreau stepping into a gradually bigger role in the rotation while Mike Sainristil has watched his snap count tighten over the last two weeks.
The Commanders are set to host the New York Giants in week five, marking the third divisional game this season, as head coach Dan Quinn looks to avoid the franchise's first 1-4 start since 2022.
