The Washington Commanders will meet with two prospects on top-30 visits, including one of the best wide receivers in the first round.

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

Amid the craziness of the first week of the free agency period, the 2026 NFL Draft is not too far off with the first round set for April 23.

Mock drafts were very split on the direction the Washington Commanders could turn with the seventh overall pick able to net a game-changer at a dire position of need. Could it be on offense after making defense a priority in the first week of free agency? Is the secondary still on the table, whether it be cornerback or safety?

ESPN and USA Today projected Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, multiple outlets pointed to Miami (FL) edge Rueben Bain Jr., CBS Sports said Ohio State edge Arvell Reese, two outlets landed Texas Tech edge David Bailey in DC while The Draft Network projected Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles.

But with the next phase of the draft process approaching, the Commanders have reportedly set visits with two prospects.

Per Ryan Fowler, the Commanders have set a top 30 visit with former USC wide receiver Makai Lemon and Texas Tech edge rusher Romello Height.

Lemon is coming off a 2025 season where he was named the Biletnikoff Award winner, recognizing the best FBS wide receiver along with a First Team All American selection by The Athletic, PFF and On3. He became the second Trojan to win the award after Marqise Lee did it in 2012, while PFF graded Lemon as the best wideout in the country.

The USC star also ended the year ranked third among Power Four players with 29 catches of 20 yards or more, while tied to lead the nation with 50 catches for first downs. Five of his seven career 100-yard receiving games came in 2025 in addition to three games with ten or more catches. After posting 852 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 58 catches over his first two seasons, Lemon finished with 79 catches for 11 touchdowns and 1,156 receiving yards.

He also posted a 4.46 in the 40 yard dash during USC's Pro Day on Wednesday.

Lemon becomes an intriguing draft target for Washington, who projects mid-to-late first round while pairing as a complementary wide receiver to Terry McLaurin. Wide receiver remains a focus for Washington with the Brandon Aiyuk saga carrying into the first week of free agency, though still no official signings.

Height may be more intriguing because it's a Texas Tech edge rusher not named David Bailey, who is a possible candidate to climb inside the top five of the draft.

Viewed as a late first to second round pick, Height found success as a Red Raider after bouncing around through his college career. Originally committing to Auburn out of high school, Height spent the 2021 season with the Tigers before transferring to USC in 2022, then Georgia Tech in 2024 before heading to Texas Tech.

But it paid off after posting ten sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss in 2025, compared to 6.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss through the first five years of his college career. Set to turn 25 nearly one week prior to the draft, Height would add another element to a vastly improved front seven headlined by Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson and Charles Omenihu
