Wide receiver Treylon Burks becomes the seventh player to re-sign with the Washington Commanders this offseason

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

The Washington Commanders are retaining another player ahead of free agency, this time an offensive player to bolster the unit's depth in 2026.

Wide receiver Treylon Burks becomes the latest to agree to terms on a new deal with reports breaking on Friday evening that he will return to the Commanders on a new one year deal. Per Ben Standig, the new deal is worth up to $4 million.

He becomes the seventh player to re-sign with the team this offseason after Nick Allegretti, Tress Way, Andrew Wylie, Shy Tuttle, Drake Jackson, Deatrich Wise Jr and Jake Moody, whose status was finalized on Friday days after electing not to tender the kicker.

Burks initially joined the organization back on Oct. 17, 2025 after being signed to the practice squad.

"I got a chance just to have fresh eyes, man, and I try to do that with every player here, " head coach Dan Quinn said during the 2025 season.. "Sometimes when a person's on another team, well, he didn't do this, or he did that. And so like, let's just see what it looks like here. And I think a player like Trey deserves that, have a fresh set of eyes here. And I told him that coming in, man, this is your space and you could feel a hunger to go for it."

A former first round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2022, Burks arrived with 17 career starts and 27 appearances where he totaled 699 receiving yards on 53 catches and 92 targets. He was then elevated to the active roster for the Monday night showdown against the Seattle Seahawks in week nine when he registered one 15-yard reception.

Burks then signed to the active roster in early November after Luke McCaffrey suffered a season-ending injury to add to the wide receiver options during a season that both Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin struggled to stay on the field together. The highlight of his season came in the week 13 overtime loss against the Denver Broncos on primetime television after coming down with a SportsCenter top ten play after recording a one-handed touchdown in the opening minutes of the third quarter, quickly making him a name to remember for Commander fans.

"I know what's in me," Burks told reporters following the play.

It marked his lone score of the season and first since the week 12 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 season as Burks posted ten catches for 130 receiving yards on 22 targets in 2025, his first season with the Commanders.

"I think it's the unseen work," head coach Dan Quinn said of Burks. "When [General Manager] Adam [Peters] and his group knew a lot more about him, just going through the process from draft to that."

Now set to return in 2026, Burks will look to upgrade a wide receiver rotation for the Commanders with a chance to jumpstart his NFL career again.
