The Washington Commanders made several additions through the undrafted free agent market as two were named among the best fits in the NFL

With the Washington Commanders set to host rookie minicamp this upcoming weekend as the rookie class joins the undrafted free agents looking to make noise, The Athletic highlighted two additions who could materialize as ones to watch after NFL.com spotlighted a handful of notable signings.

That includes former LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton, who struggled with availability during his college career after suffering a torn meniscus in both knees while also battling both ankle and shoulder injuries. Yet the raw athleticism has been obvious throughout after he posted a 4.41 second time in the 40 yard dash and 1.57 split at the NFL Scouting Combine. Hilton also spent two seasons playing with now Commanders QB Jayden Daniels while at LSU.

"He runs with tremendous balance and body control — he’s just an extremely raw player," The Athletic added.

Whether Hilton arrives as a wide receiver or defensive back will also be another storylines for fans to track after the 6-foot athlete went through drills during the draft process as a defensive back, adding intrigue to his potential in the NFL. It also adds importance to the addition of Hilton in rookie minicamp and potentially beyond after the Commanders opted against drafting a defensive back during the 2026 NFL Draft, though the most recent and first free agent signing of the offseason materialized at cornerback in Akhello Witherspoon and Amik Robertson.

Hilton was also joined by former Iowa kicker Drew Stevens, who was tabbed among the nearly dozen of prospects grouped together as 'others to watch.'

Stevens was initially among the batch of undrafted rookies to be invited to rookie minicamp before inking as an undrafted free agent after also reportedly drawing interest from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Stevens ended his four year career as a Hawkeye as the all-time scoring leader in program history where he made 76 of his 95 career attempts. Yet the bulk of Stevens' work came inside the 40 yard line where he made all but three of his 47 career attempts while making just 66.7% of his 48 attempts from beyond.

Whether he actually proves to be true competition is another story, yet the Iowa product now arrives with a chance to compete against Jake Moody, who made all but one of his 11 field goal attempts after signing with the Commanders in 2025 where he first joined the practice squad. Moody was then promoted to the active roster in mid November where he became a largely stabilizing force for a unit that needed it.

The Commanders initially elected to not tender Moody before re-signing him on March 6, becoming the second specialist to return to Washington after punter Tress Way became the first to finalize his new contract.
