Quietly, a Dallas Cowboys star made headlines ahead of Super Bowl LX, as wide receiver CeeDee Lamb made an incredible gesture. Lamb surprised Technical Sergeant Chris Ferrell, a U.S. Air Force veteran, with Super Bowl tickets, making the Cowboys’ fans dreams come true. In turn, Ferrell responded with his own surprise during a meet-and-greet at USAA’s Salute to Service Lounge on February 7, presenting Lamb with his Purple Heart. Ferrell is a highly decorated veteran, who received the Purple Heart in addition to a Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation with Valor, the Department of Defense Civilian of the Year, and the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from then-President Obama.
He was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, which involved disarming and destroying bombs in combat zones in his 14 years of service from 2003 to 2017. He medically retired due to combat injuries and currently works as a police officer in Clovis, New Mexico, where he helps the local Air Force base in the area. Ferrell is a lifetime Cowboys fan, and Lamb met him and his wife, Lauren, who is in nursing school, at the special meet-and-greet where the exchange occurred.
Here is the full story from Cowboys Roundtable writer Jonah Morgan on the incredible gesture.
With Super Bowl headlines really dictated by stars and celebrities over the days leading up to it, it’s nice to see a story like this trickle out from one of the NFL’s premier receivers who made it a priority to give back to someone who bravely served the country in his military service.
