Can Cowboys Afford To Trade For Maxx Crosby? cover image

The Raiders' defensive end came into the headlines over his reaction to being shut down in Week 17, leading to a lot of rumors about his future.

The Dallas Cowboys and Maxx Crosby links just won't go away.

And now even more so.

With the Las Vegas Raiders making the decision to sit Crosby for at least Week 17, and there are reports for the last two games, the defensive end didn't agree with it.

As such, he reportedly left the facility after a chat with head coach Pete Carroll.

And when this news hit social media, speculation ran rife with what Maxx's future could look like.

Granted, the reaction to Crosby leaving the building was huge, and context is important, and we have come to learn that it might have been a mountain out of a molehill.

But still, let's play this thing out for fun.

If Crosby really does want out, could the Cowboys be a realistic option?

With the thought of having three defensive linemen earning roughly $20 million APY next year (Osa Odighizuwa, Kenny Clark, and Quinnen Williams), adding Crosby would be the cherry on top.

Granted, a very expensive cherry.

With an APY of $35.5 million per Spotrac.com, that is going to require some serious wheeling and dealing from the Dallas front office.

At the time of writing, per Over The Cap, Dallas is $47.9 million over the 2026 cap, but don't stress, with several contract restructures and cuts, the Cowboys will easily get under that. ... in a way that makes the idea of ever being "over the cap'' quite misleading.

The fact is (see below) the Cowboys can easily create $110 million of room in the spring.

But perhaps the most important issue here is having so much money tied up in the defensive line.

Having Williams, Clark, Osa, and Crosby is a fearsome front four and would give the Cowboys their pass-rusher.

Would it be worth it? No doubt.

But the Cowboys already traded for Quinnen. Would Jerry dip his toe back in the market to land one of the best pass rushers in football? His defense desperately needs it.

Crosby to Dallas is a fun thought, and yes, there might be a few bumps in the road in Vegas, but this still feels like a pipedream more than a reality.

Nevertheless, it's sure fun to think about.
