Once again, Rex Ryan and the Cowboys have come up as a possible match.

The Dallas Cowboys need a new defensive coordinator after firing Matt Eberflus, and the list of candidates has been growing for days.

Brian Flores, Jim Schwartz are just a couple of high-profile names many want Dallas to pursue.

The Cowboys have requested permission to speak with four coaches: Ephraim Banda, Daronte Jones, Jeff Ulbrich (denied by the Falcons), and Jim Leonhard.

The Banda and Jones visits are happening on Friday, with Leonhard slated for this weekend.

But not so shockingly, here comes ESPN's Stephen A. Smith with his idea of who the Cowboys should hire as their next defensive coordinator.

“I think they should hire Rex Ryan from ESPN,” Smith said on his radio show via Awful Announcing. “I think Rex Ryan should be your defensive coordinator in Dallas…I believe that Rex Ryan would do what Vic Fangio is doing in Philadelphia.”

“Rex Ryan is one of the elite defensive minds in football. And Jerry Jones should hire him as the new defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. Not just because of his football acumen, but also his personality. Because he’ll get in people’s a**! He’ll get in people’s a** and hold them accountable.”

This isn't the first time Rex's name has been thrown up to be a coach in Dallas, and it certainly won't be the last.  But this "bit" is getting boring now.

Says our Mike Fisher: "It's not a knock on Rex as a coach, but he's a circus choice. Dallas already has enough of that. And more: Stephen A. is not at all plugged in; I'm told Brian Schottenheimer is making this hire, not Jerry.''
