Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has put pen to paper on a new record-setting contract, keeping him in Dallas for the foreseeable future.
Well, it took a little longer than expected, but Dallas Cowboys All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey has finally put pen to paper on a new deal that sees him become the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.
Aubrey has signed a four-year, $28 million extension (giving him a five-year total of $33.5 million), with $20 million guaranteed, as he now stays with Brian Schottenheimer's team, with the Cowboys' offense and special teams holding on to one of the NFL's best.
Aubrey made it clear throughout the offseason, in his talks with the media, that he always wanted to remain in Dallas, and he's gotten his wish.
But what are his thoughts on finally getting the deal over the line?
"I'm just excited to be home," Aubrey said. "Been here my whole life, it's a place that's special to me, my family, my wife's family is still here, so it was a priority to me to stay put. And I think this is a world-class organization. I think the world of them. So excited to be home and working for a place like this, it's a special place."
The deal for Aubrey, which sees him paid $7 million APY, makes him the NFL's highest-paid kicker in a record-setting contract.
Houston Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn was the previous highest paid, at $6.5 million APY, and Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker had the most guaranteed money of any kicker ($17.7 million).
Now Aubrey clears both, and make no mistake about it, he knows what that means.
"To be the highest-paid at a position means the world because that just means people view me as a top player at my position," Aubrey added. "So just got to keep going, keep proving those people correct, and find a way to win a lot of games."
Aubrey's contract has the potential to become yet another offseason saga, and once the deadline for other teams to negotiate with him passed, it felt like options were limited for the All-Pro kicker.
But he had his heart set on Dallas, and the Cowboys came to the party, taking care of their star kicker for the next four years.
It had the potential to be a little rough for Aubrey, with no deal before the offseason workouts began, but now his future is settled, and he can focus on what he does best: kicking goals.
