The Cowboys' rookie class was put through its paces at The Star over the weekend, and Schotty had a clear vision of what he wanted accomplished.

The Dallas Cowboys' rookie minicamp has now been completed, with Brian Schottenheimer and his coaching staff getting to see their young players in action.

With the classroom being just as important as what is done out on the practice field, this time of year can be daunting for rookies, but the Cowboys know they have the right makeup in that rookie class.

Led by Caleb Downs, who already knows the playbook, the Cowboys have hit the ground running at The Star, getting all players settled in and used to life as part of America's Team.

Of course, the rookies have a lot of information thrown at them during this period, so it can be tough for it all to sink in, but Schottenheimer knows his class has the tools to absorb it.

But what were his impressions of his rookie class as they were put through their paces at The Star over the weekend?

"It's a really good group, all sitting up front, dialed in, taking good notes, and all things that as a teacher, you think that they should be doing," Schottenheimer said. "I told them a couple things. One, get them comfortable being here as a Cowboy, the facility, the faces, all that stuff. Two, connection, then three, get them caught up.

"Those three C's is something that we believe in. I can tell it's going to be a really connected group, the personalities are right, the young men, the makeup of them are right, and the way they're working right now has been cool."

With fans eager to see Downs, along with Malachi Lawrence, Dallas' two first-round picks, be on the practice field, both are as advertised, and fans can't wait to see them unleashed in Oxnard.

But with now a break until OTAs, this is the time that the rookie class really has to be dialed in on the playbook and their conditioning.

Because once OTAs begin, that is when the battle for positions takes place, and as a rookie, especially for those drafted in the lower rounds, there can be no stumbles.

But with Schottenheimer's "three C's", the thought is that no rookie will be left behind as the Cowboys search for the right makeup of their offseason roster.

Yes, it has been a big whirlwind for rookies over the past couple of months with the combine and then the draft, but now they are in the big leagues, and there's none bigger than the Cowboys.

And those three C's Schottenheimer speaks of could play a pivotal role in this year's rookie class, putting pressure on some of the veterans on the roster.
