Undrafted standout Camden Brown continues his preseason surge with explosive plays, but a late charge from Jonathan Mingo turns the battle for Dallas’s final roster spot into a shootout.
Dallas Cowboys UDFA receiver Camden Brown has been the talk of camp after his two-touchdown performance against the Seattle Seahawks in the first preseason game.
With Brown stacking good days in Oxnard, when the time came to produce with real bullets flying, he did, hauling in three catches for 62 yards and those two touchdowns.
We have heard everyone speak glowingly of him in the aftermath, and such has been his rise; many are ready to put him on the active roster.
Whether that is as WR5 or purely on special teams, who knows, but Brian Schottenheimer wanted to see Brown do it consistently over the next couple of weeks. Citing it would be putting the "cart before the horse" to suggest Camden is on the roster now and not to take part in preseason games.
He did it again in Saturday's Preseason Game 2 victory at Arizona, as Brown followed up his highlight-reel effort with 77 receiving yards off two catches against the Cardinals.
But ...
Jonathan Mingo just joined the party, as he grabbed two receptions as well for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Coming into Saturday? Brown was firming up as a player to watch as roster battles loom. And it doesn't hurt to have Dak Prescott sing your praises as well.
“Just a guy that was going to do everything that he can to help this team produce,” Prescott said. “It's not about his individual success or what comes from there, he just wants to be help, and he knows the kind of player he is. Obviously, he wants to help in a much bigger way, but whatever comes his way whatever job, responsibilities he has, he's accepting, he's excited to do it.
"Then you hear his story, you spend any amount of time with him, he wears that, and that's who he is each and every day. I want to be around men like that as much as I can. He's doing everything right.”
It is clear Dak is a big fan, but as we know, he doesn't make the roster decisions.
Meanwhile, coach Brian Schottenheimer did say before this game that Mingo has had a great camp as well.
So it feels like that final receiver spot, if Dallas takes five, will be between Mingo and Brown.
