One way receivers can make the final roster is by making plays on special teams, and against Seattle, Mingo did just that.

Dallas Cowboys receiver Jonathan Mingo has been on the outer of the offense since arriving as a trade back in 2024.

Never really finding his place on offense, Mingo has been on the back burner, but now his place on the Cowboys roster for the upcoming season is a big talking point.

Some think that if the Cowboys keep five receivers on the roster, it is between Mingo and Camden Brown for that spot.

So often we hear Brian Schottenheimer talk about how important special teams are to those lower on the depth chart, and if you can make plays for Nick Sorensen's unit, that bodes well for your chances of making the roster.

And against Seattle, Mingo perhaps made the play of the day on special teams. Initially getting pushed back to Seattle's 10-yard line on the return, Mingo then fought his way back and put the foot down, running after the ball carrier before taking him down at the Cowboys' 35-yard line.

A great hustle play.

"That's elite finish," Sorensen said of Mingo's play. "It's exceptional effort. I think that affects the whole team. It was the first clip that Schotty showed to the team, during the recap. That type of effort, that's what you want everywhere in football, anywhere in life. It was just really cool to see that from Mingo, just the effort that he gave because he won early.

"He did a really good job versus the vise getting out of bounds. He almost stacked him and made that play, but to see him get pushed past when the returner stepped up and be able to catch him, that was awesome. It was cool."

So, Mingo clearly got a big tick for his work on special teams. Plus, he did manage two catches for 20 yards as well, so he was making plays on offense, too.

While there is still a lot to play out over the Cowboys' next joint practice and the two preseason games, Mingo seems to be having a good offseason and might be positioning himself to be WR5.

We know how important special teams are to Schottenheimer, and when Mingo makes plays as he did against Seattle, it only increases his chances of making the team.

Whether he does or not is still unknown, but right now, Mingo is doing his best to make sure the coaching staff can't cut him.
