Dallas added some pass rush juice in the form of Miller, but why did Jerry Jones pull the trigger on the deal?
When the news dropped that the Dallas Cowboys were signing All-Pro Von Miller, it was a signal that the franchise is serious about building a team capable of challenging.
Now, how far they can go, who knows, but the fact that owner Jerry Jones and the front office are willing to still make moves, and ones that truly improve the roster, tells us what they think of this version of the Cowboys.
It has been a big offseason in every aspect for Dallas, and this latest piece of business, which, according to Jerry, doesn't stop the idea of him making a "substantive" trade and using future draft capital to make another move, is another big tick for the franchise.
But the move has many wondering why the Cowboys added Miller now. ... and it's moved the locker room to talk about it, too.
Yes, we know that pass rush isn't Dallas' strong suit, and Von certainly helps with that, and Jerry detailed why he chose to go with Miller.
"Obviously you get someone who's been there and done that," Jerry said. "He trains with our consulting trainer (BT Jordan), and he had been telling us for all this past year, if we could get him, he knew first-hand because he works with him all the time, and knew that he could help us.
"We feel real good, he’s a veteran that can really bring a great aspect to the team from the team concept. Really wants to be here, he wants to be here, we want him here, and we believe he can come in here and can give us some additional pressure on the quarterback."
It is another example of how the Cowboys are conducting their business differently this offseason. They aren't sitting on their hands, they are working to get better.
And it is making others on the roster take notice.
Rashan Gary spoke to the media, and gave his thoughts on Miller's signing.
"Today, beginning of the offseason, every move that the Cowboys did is they’re serious about winning and winning right now.”
And that is the big thread to pull here.
The franchise is finally serious about winning.
Added Quinnen Williams: "I get to work with the GOAT.''
Our own Mike Fisher has coined the term "Sometimes Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys seem like a marketing company that plays football on the side," and that was the punchline for the franchise.
Now? The marketing is taking a back seat, while the football side is flexing is muscles.
And Cowboys Nation is loving it.
