Brown made it onto the Cowboys' 53-man roster, but how he found out is the big story here.
One of the big decisions that Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his staff had to make on cut-down day was how many receivers they would have on their 53-man roster.
We knew that CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin were safe, but below them it was a battle between UDFA Camden Brown and Jonathan Mingo.
Both practiced well all offseason, and both made plays in Dallas' preseason games, so the battle was going down to the wire.
Most thought the Cowboys might keep six; others thought one of them had to be cut, but as it turned out, Dallas really wanted both.
So, it kept Mingo and Brown.
It was a big moment for Brown, being an undrafted rookie, and he deserved it.
However, he didn't find out from Schottenheimer or another staff member that he made the final roster.
So, how did he find out? Well, he looked at a tweet from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“I realized it off your tweet [of the roster]," Brown said to Harris. "Everyone sent it to me. I was like, ‘Why the hell everybody calling me?’ I feel like it’s a dream come true, for real. What I’ve realized is the job is not over, so you got to keep putting your best foot forward every day.
"Wake up with a sense of gratitude every single day and know why you’re here. That’s how I’m approaching it, and I’m grateful, for real.”
So, there was no phone call to Brown, no nothing.
He only found out because he saw Harris' tweet about him making the roster.
Brown also stated that his heart was pumping all day as he waited for a phone call to tell him one way or the other; however, it never came, so you can imagine the angst and nervousness the young receiver felt.
But now, he's on the Cowboys' active roster, and as we know, that is half the battle. Now he's got to go produce when it really matters.
