As training camp begins, Ferguson has just gotten some bulletin-board material.

The 2025 season for Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson was a little so-so.

Yes, he managed to find the end zone eight times after failing to record a touchdown in the entire 2024 season, but Ferguson wasn't the downfield threat we have seen him be.

Just 7.3 yards per reception meant Jake wasn't getting the ball downfield, and his 600 yards from 82 receptions aren't good enough.

Plus, he had fumbling issues as well with three, after four in 2024.

So Jake enters Year 5, with a lot to prove, as the famed seam route he and Dak Prescott regularly connected on early in his career was nowhere to be seen last season.

And now, as training camp gets set to begin, Ferguson's rank among his fellow tight ends isn't good.

PFF ranked all starting tight ends in football and out of 32, Ferguson came in at No. 24.

"Ferguson has been a very productive pass-catcher for the Cowboys across the past few seasons," PFF wrote. "His 41 broken tackles since 2023 are second to only Trey McBride, while his 1,060 yards after the catch are fifth among all tight ends in the league.

"However, Ferguson has posted sub-60.0 PFF grades in back-to-back seasons, mainly due to his league-leading four fumbles."

So for PFF, only eight other tight ends are worse than Ferguson. That isn't great for the "big biscuit" as he begins a new offseason.

But the criticism is warranted.

He was three yards and a cloud of dust with the ball in his hands, and he also had fumbling issues as well. And when you have eight touchdowns, but that gets forgotten about because of other issues, that tells you all you need to know.

So, Ferguson has to get back to the tight end that was let loose down the seam early in his career, getting 10 yards per reception and making his snaps count.

The eight touchdowns are good, but the rest of his game has to catch up because he can't have another 82 receptions for just 600 yards again.

Dallas will get some help this year from Brevyn Spann-Ford as the No. 2 guy, as we think he'll leap-frog over Luke Schoonmaker. And if they keep a fourth? Rookie UDFA Micael Trigg is an intriguing athlete.

But Job 1 is about "Big Biscuit'' playing bigger.

For reference on our "3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust'' assessment? Ferguson was third for most receptions by a tight end in 2025, but was ranked 13th for yards. Yuck.

And now, with being No. 24 among his fellow tight ends, Ferguson just got some bulletin-board material ahead of training camp.
