The veteran cornerback looks to transform his bargain status into a massive payday by stabilizing Dallas’ secondary with proven ball-hawking skills and reliable starting experience.

Cobie Durant arrived in Dallas this offseason without generating the same level of attention as some of the Cowboys’ bigger-name additions. But if his first four seasons are any indication, he could provide a huge impact.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Moe Moton, he lists eight underrated players who he thinks could be big performers, and help their value in the 2027 free agency market. One of the guys he thinks could do just that is Durant in his first year with his new team.

"In February of next year, Durant will turn 29, but he's an experienced starter who could garner strong interest after a standout year with the Cowboys," Moton writes. "His ability to line up on the perimeter and in the slot may also bolster his market value if he makes more plays on the ball."

A fourth-round pick out of South Carolina State in 2022, Durant gradually worked his way into a larger role with the Rams before becoming a full-time starter. Rather than being handed a starting job early in his career, Durant earned it through consistent development, something the Cowboys are hoping continues in 2026.

This past season with the Rams, Durant finished with 40 total tackles, seven passes defended, and he was able to tie his career-high in interceptions with three. He was even able to take one of those picks 50 yards back to the house in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dallas entered the offseason needing more proven depth at cornerback, and Durant offers exactly that. He brings starting experience, proven ball skills, and the versatility to line up in multiple spots across the secondary. With his contract set to expire after the season, every snap represents another chance to show he deserves a significant long-term payday.

The Cowboys also have plenty to gain if Durant delivers. Dallas is counting on its revamped defense to rebound this season, and a dependable veteran presence opposite established playmakers could stabilize a secondary that dealt with inconsistency and injuries in recent years.

If Durant can continue the trajectory he established in Los Angeles, the Cowboys may have landed one of free agency's biggest bargains.
