The Cowboys didn't get all of their needs addressed in free agency, but COO Stephen Jones just revealed something that might have gone unnoticed.

The Dallas Cowboys had a relatively fruitful free-agent period, signing a host of outside helpers.

Of course, most were on defense for Christian Parker, as expected, but some positions were missed.

Edge, linebacker, and possibly corner loom as the big needs ahead of the NFL Draft, and for most, with Dallas holding two first-round picks, the franchise could, in theory, fill two of those needs.

But as we have seen in several mock drafts, there is a chance the Cowboys get wiped out before they pick at No. 12, and none of their key defensive prospects are left on the board.

If that happens throughout the draft and the Cowboys don't fill the roster needs they want, could the franchise then look to other teams post-draft and look to make a trade?

Well, as Cowboys COO somewhat surprisingly stated, the team is already talking to teams about that very thing.

“We're talking currently to teams about veteran players that could certainly help us in situations that we weren't able to necessarily get accomplished in free agency," Jones said. "I think we did a lot to improve our football team, but we didn't check every box.

"I always say it, player acquisition is not going to be over after the draft either, that's how we got George Pickens (who was acquired via trade after last year's draft). We'll continue to look for ways to improve our football team."

We have mentioned several names that the Cowboys could be targeting pre-draft, with Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks, a name that Cowboys Nation wants to see at The Star in 2026.

We have also mentioned the idea of calling Pittsburgh to inquire about EDGE standouts Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig.

Other ideas include Bobby Wagner and Bobby Okereke. So there are options. ... though those two are free agents.

It isn't known if the Cowboys will be in a position to draft Sonny Styles tonight, given the draft capital it would need to move up that high in the draft (maybe all the way to No. 4?).

Plus, without having a second-round pick, there is a good chance both Anthony Hill Jr. and Jacob Rodriguez are also off the board before Dallas is on the clock with pick No. 92.

And if that happens, you can nearly bet your house that the Cowboys will be on the phone to teams, as they are now, to get a veteran through the doors to fill a roster need.

The fact that Dallas is already on the phones with teams about potential moves tells you there's an urgency to get moves done.

Yes, filling those roster holes via the draft is ideal, but if not, the Cowboys, it appears, won't hesitate to pull the trigger on a trade.
