It is fair to say that Downs has a mean competitive streak, and that means taking down the franchise quarterback on the putting green.
It appears Dallas Cowboys rookie Caleb Downs is already adjusting to life at The Star, with the safety already making noise on the field.
Seen by many as the glue that will hold Christian Parker's defense together, at least on the backend, Downs has all the tools needed to become the guy Dallas drafted him to be.
But he also has a competitive spirit, and one that has seen him become one of the best prospects coming out of the draft.
However, his competitiveness isn't limited to football. Caleb doesn't mind golf as well.
Dak Prescott, when asked about what he thought of Downs as the veterans and rookies now go against each other at OTAs, gave a glowing endorsement of Downs.
But he also stated that he and Caleb hit the golf course, too, but it didn't end well for him.
"Golfed with him outside the facility, pretty good, was impressed there, he beat me," a smiling Dak said.
So, taking down the franchise quarterback is a big feather in Downs' cap this offseason, and yes, it was likely a pure bonding exercise, and no one really cared about who won, right?
Well, this goes back to Caleb's competitive nature, because when he was asked about golfing with Prescott, he left nothing to the imagination.
"I'm not going to lie, I was out there to beat his (butt)," a laughing Downs said. "I told my friend that before I went out there. I was like, I'm gonna beat him. I don't care what happens. So, yeah, it was a good game."
So, Downs already had the mindset that he was going to take Dak down on the course, and he followed through in devastating fashion.
But there is a deeper meaning here.

When was the last time Prescott invited a defensive player to join him on the course?
When was the last time Prescott invited a rookie defensive player to join him on the course?
Get the meaning here? This was a gesture with a purpose, an "anointing'' of sorts to what Dak and the Cowboys believe Downs is and will be.
Did the pair have a little wager on it?
"Nah, I ain't put no money on it," Downs added. "I didn't know how good he was, so I was just keeping it. Be [a] couple strokes. It's fine."
But now that Downs has beaten Dak, surely over the next month or so, the pair will look to hit the course again, so Prescott can get retribution, right?
Well, as expected, Caleb isn't backing down from the challenge.
"I'm ready for it, it's up to him," Downs said.
And I'd imagine the rematch will be taking place very soon. ... because it's natural for team leaders to hang around with one another.
