The Cowboys needed help at corner, and moved for a quality veteran.

The Dallas Cowboys' approach to free agency has been a big topic of debate over the past couple of days.

Many expected the franchise to bust the budget as owner Jerry Jones stated, but that has been far from the case.

Now, Dallas hasn't sat on its hands either.

The signings of Jalen Thompson, P.J. Locke, and Rashan Gary were seen as good, quality additions.

But fans wanted more.

And they got it when Dallas signed Los Angeles Rams corner Cobie Durant.

A veteran who hauled in three interceptions in the Rams' playoff push last season.

Likely not a name many were familiar with, but after listening to those in the know, Dallas got a good, quality player to help Christian Parker's secondary.

Some see the Durant signing as a shoulder-shrug move, since a high-caliber player was wanted, but Cobie could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for the Cowboys.

And Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski has given Dallas an A grade for signing Durant.

"Over the last two seasons, Durant has lined up primarily on the outside, registering 15 pass breakups and four interceptions while allowing passer ratings below 80," Sobleski wrote. "He'll likely take on a lead role opposite DaRon Bland on the boundary.

"At 28, Durant is a productive playmaker in his prime, coming off his best seasons. The Cowboys were patient in filling a need and landed a high-end free agent who can start Week 1."

Known as a versatile playmaker, what Durant could bring to the Dallas defense is an interesting thought.

His versatility is perhaps the biggest key, with the Cowboys loving their players to be multi-positional, so Durant's ability to play multiple positions gives Parker flexibility in his scheme.

Also, the Cowboys' defense struggled with turnovers last season under Matt Eberflus.

The thought is that Cobie will also help in that regard, as a ball-hawking corner.

Durant's signing could be looked back on midway through next season as one of Dallas' better pieces of business.

No, he isn't a household name, but the Cowboys need a dependable veteran in the secondary, and Durant fits that mold.

Having Durant, DaRon Bland, and Shavon Revel. Jr, in the secondary is a start, and yes, Dallas still might draft a corner, but there isn't a crucial need anymore.

An "A" grade for Cobie? Dallas will take that.
