Cowboys land emotional defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard, a former Vikings starter, joining a revamped defense with deep personal ties.
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys' free agency additions list has been met with a shoulder shrug by some.
But piece by piece, "outside free agents'' are coming to The Star in large part to be involved in new coordinator Christian Parker's revamped defense in 2026.
The latest move? A journeyman defensive lineman who has been a two-year starter for the Minnesota Vikings.
Jonathan Bullard (6-3, 290) has agreed to a one-year cheap deal ("up to'' $2.5 million) as the former third-round pick becomes the 10th newcomer in Frisco during this period.
The move is being labeled an "emotional'' one because the deal is being finalized on Saturday, which marks the anniversary of the death of Bullard's grandmother, who was a die-hard Dallas fan.
Bullard will now be playing an 11th season with his seventh different team. He played in 15 games for the New Orleans Saints in 2025, but before that was a first-teamer in Minnesota, where his position coach was Marcus Dixon - who is now Dallas' D-line coach.

Now, what could be next pre-Draft?
We have mentioned over the past week of Dallas' interest in potentially bringing in a veteran linebacker for Parker. While it remains quiet on that front at the moment, we are reporting that we still believe the Cowboys will be adding another body to the linebacker room.
Overall here?
Some are starters, others depth pieces, but there's no denying the Cowboys felt they had a serious need to shore up the defense with new bodies, and they have done just that.
