The Cowboys have tendered All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey, but he's still hoping to get a long-term deal done.

The Dallas Cowboys' offseason had all eyes on George Pickens, as his future with the team was a major storyline.

Then it became All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey.

With Dallas already having an offer on the table, reportedly near $7 million APY, it would make Brandon the highest-paid kicker in football.

But it appears he and his agent want it to be by an even wider margin.

So back to the negotiating table we go.

Still, some think a new deal for a kicker should be rather straightforward.

We know what the number is for Aubrey to be the highest-paid in the NFL, so offer a little more than that, and away we go.

But that isn't how this one is going down.

And for Aubrey, who was speaking to Jeff Kolb of Fox4 at an event at AT&T Stadium ahead of the Grand Prix in Arlington, he shared his thoughts on where things currently stand.

"It's not something that I have control over," Aubrey said. "Obviously, Dallas is my home, would like to keep it that way, so it would be nice to get a long-term deal going. Just need to sit down and have that conversation."

So Aubrey wants to remain a Cowboy, that's great.

But as we know, money talks, and Aubrey might have lost a little of his leverage as free agency rolled on.

The Houston Texans signed their kicker, Kaimi Fairbairn, to a two-year, $13 million extension, which is $6.5 million APY, making him the highest-paid kicker in football.

At least until Aubrey signs, anyway.

And Aubrey knows that when deals like that happen, it only means the next guy in line is going to get more.

"That's always a positive, anytime the market goes up as a whole, every kicker makes money," Aubrey added. "So when he signs a new record contract, anyone signing a new deal, the price has gone up a little bit."

With the Cowboys not in a rush to extend Aubrey, as free agency and then the draft will take center stage, we eagerly await seeing where the two sides land.

Dallas has the leverage. Brandon wants more money.

How will this play out?
