The rookie left tackle silenced doubters by dominating Houston's elite pass rushers on an island, securing Dak Prescott’s blindside and transforming a preseason question mark into a cornerstone.
Through four weeks of the season, those question marks aimed at Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton are nowhere to be found.
With many doubting whether or not he was the right player for the job, even with Nate Thomas coming in for a battle that was never really a battle, Guyton had to win a lot of people over.
Well, after four weeks he has.
And it was his performance against the much-vaunted Houston Texans defense that solidified what most people were thinking about Tyler this year—he's been superb.
Against Houston's dynamic duo of Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, Guyton allowed only three pressures over a combined 40 snaps. And of those 40 snaps, he was one-on-one for 36 of them.
So he was on an island against two of football's best pass rushers, and he didn't just survive; he thrived.
"Outstanding," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said of Guyton's season. "When you don't have to talk about a tackle in this league very often, that's a really good thing. He's been playing with a lot of confidence, a lot of physicality. I just really like where he's at from a mental makeup.
"He goes into these games, and he just does his job and plays physical in the run game. And the pass protection, I think, has been stellar."
And now owner Jerry Jones has chimed in (via 105.3 The Fan), proclaiming Guyton as "the highlight so far this year ... He's evolving into the outstanding player we need him to be.
Given that Dallas invested a first-round pick in Guyton, it simply had to work.
And he went about his business this offseason with aplomb, and now we are at the point where we don't have to worry about Dak Prescott's blindside anymore.
Although right tackle is a serious problem at times with Terence Steele.
But for Guyton, he had a lot of pressure on his shoulders entering this season, with the offense seen as one of the best in football, but only if Dak Prescott has time to deliver the ball.
And from his left tackle spot, Guyton has shut everything down.
Left tackle, folks, is no longer a problem.
