Cowboys Make Javonte Williams Stance Clear With 6 Key Words cover image

Javonte is a free agent, but do the Cowboys want him to return in 2026?

Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams had a superb season under Brian Schottenheimer.

Brought in last offseason, with a lot of skepticism given his injury and production history. But Williams bucked the trend and was a driving force in the Cowboys, having one of the better offenses in football.

Through 16 games, Williams rushed for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns (both easily career-highs) to be a key component of how Schottenheimer's offense rolled.

But now Javonte is a free agent, and we know Dallas doesn't exactly like to spend big on running backs.

However, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones has made it crystal clear about his thoughts on bringing Javonte back in 2026.

“Javonte is at the top of our list to go out and sign. and we want to bring him back,” Stephen said. “We want to sign him to a multiple-year deal, and Adam [Prasifka, Dallas cap guy] and I have been talking about it, how we want to get started with his agent.

"It's my understanding he really wants to be back as well, which is helpful, but certainly that's one of our priorities is to get him re-signed.”

Given what Williams has given this offense, both from a run-game perspective, plus his ability in pass protection, makes it an easier decision to bring him back.

Of course, money will be the central figure in it. Would Dallas be willing to offer Williams a deal in the $6 million APY range?

Our own Mike Fisher has already reported that those inside The Star have a "Thunder and Lightning" vision for the run game with Williams and Jaydon Blue next season.

But that only works if Williams returns.

And going by Stephen's words, there's a good chance of that happening.
